Summit County Republican Caucus

The Summit County Republican Caucus was held Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at the Community and Senior Center in Frisco, Colorado.  The meeting began promptly at 7:00 pm.

We had a great turnout with nearly 300 people in attendance.  Some people were not deterred even though they had to stand as every chair in the building was used!

Our Summit County Chairman, Debra Irvine, chaired the evening with the help of many volunteers.  Refreshments were generously provided by the GOP Women of the Summit.

Twenty precincts then met to elect 2 Precinct Committeepersons (a two-year term) and 2 Delegates and 2 Alternates to the attend County Assembly.

Our County Assembly will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at the Community and Senior Center in Frisco at 9:00 am.  At this meeting 20 Delegates and 20 Alternates will be elected to go on to higher Assemblies to be held on 13 and 14 April 2012 in Denver.

2012 Summit County Caucus

The Caucus is open to those who have been affiliated with the Republican Party for at least 2 months prior to the Precinct Caucus. The participant must be a resident of a Summit County precinct for at least 30 days, and registered to vote in the precinct no later than 29 days before the Precinct Caucuses. The individual must be a US citizen, at least 18 years of age and properly registered to participate in the Caucus. (The one exception is that any person who has attained the age of 18 years or has become a naturalized citizen within 2 months immediately preceding the Caucus may vote and be a candidate for Precinct Committeeperson even though he or she has been affiliated with the political party for less than 2 months as shown on the registration book of the Summit County Clerk and Recorder.)

Note that there is no voting by proxy or absentee ballot.

The Caucus for Summit County will be held in one location as follows:

• Date:     Tuesday 7 February 2012
• Time:     7.00 p.m. sharp
• Place:    Community and Senior Center in Frisco.

Registered Republicans are strongly advised to participate in advance registration for the Caucus (go to www.caucus.cologop.org), which is something new for Colorado. This process is very simple and quick. Pre-registered Caucus attendees are asked to bring their confirmation notification and a form of ID (Driver’s License).

Registered Republicans may register at the Caucus venue, The Community & Senior Center, early arrival being strongly recommended. The names and contact details of attendees will be checked as they enter the Caucus, to make sure that they are eligible to vote. ID, such as a Driver’s License, is required.

A typical Caucus agenda:

• Welcome and Call to Order at 7 p.m.
• Invocation / Pledge
• Select temporary precinct caucus chair and secretary
• Conduct Preference Poll by secret ballot, tally and announce results
• Elect Precinct Committeepeople by secret ballot; tally and announce results
• Elect Delegates/Alternates to County Assembly
• Recruit Election Judges
• Discuss Issues and Consider Resolutions
• Adjourn and Complete Paperwork

The GOP Women primarily focus on organizing fundraising activities for the Summit GOP.  They have done a terrific job with our Lincoln Day Dinner, Pig Roast Picnic, Frisco BBQ Cupcakes & Commonsense Booth and the Dillon BBQ Cupcakes & Commonsense Booth.
