Kathleen Neel – Clerk & Recorder
Kathleen (Kathy) Neel moved to Breckenridge in 1963. She worked in the Clerk and Recorder’s Office for the summer, after graduating from High School and before attending Fort Lewis College in Durango. Kathleen returned to work in the Clerk and Recorder’s Office in 1995 and was appointed Chief Deputy Clerk in 1997. In 2004 the duties of Election Administrator were added to her other responsibilities. She was appointed Clerk and Recorder in November 2, 2009.
As Election Administrator, Kathy introduced Vote Centers to Summit County and established early voting in Frisco, to make early voting more accessible to those who live outside the Breckenridge area. The Clerk and Recorder’s Office continues to make every effort to ensure that all eligible electors in Summit County are able to cast their ballots in a timely and convenient fashion. Summit County voters can trust that their votes are counted in the most accurate way possible.
As County Clerk, Kathy has been working to update the recording system to allow searches of our Grantor/Grantee records online. Also, the Office in the process of scanning microfiche documents to allow them to be accessed on public computers.
In a recent speech, Kathy Neel pointed out, “Whether they know it or not, the taxpayers have a lot invested in me, and I take that very seriously, because I have devoted a great deal of myself to them. I am very committed to the citizens of Summit County and feel a deep responsibility towards them.”
Kathleen comes from a family which has devoted much time to public service. Her father, former Summit County Assessor, Jerry Ahern, must be so proud that Kathleen achieved the office of Summit County Clerk & Recorder.
